Mr. Lutz's Way

John Lutz

John Lutz

John Lutz made a difference in the lives of more than 1,000 children during his 35 years as a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher. So, it should come as no surprise that he planned to continue to do so after his 2001 retirement. John named Children’s Wisconsin as the beneficiary of his life insurance policy and a portion of his home. He has designated the gifts for pediatric research.

John was inspired to become a teacher because of his favorite teacher, Mr. Ahlbrand. John was a favorite among his own students — especially in math class. He taught them a speedy method for doing their homework, which students affectionately called "Mr. Lutz's way."

He made a lasting impression on his students and was even nominated several times by them to be included in Who's Who Among American Teachers®. His former students still approach him to say hi when he is out and about town.

John decided to include Children’s Wisconsin in his estate plans because he was touched by what he read about the children helped by Children’s Wisconsin. He also heard firsthand about the experiences his students and their siblings had while receiving care at Children’s Wisconsin. He hopes one day a child will decide to become a medical professional or clinical researcher because of the treatment and care he or she received there.

"Science is a fantastic thing, and scientists need to find cures for kids. New medical technologies and advancements now give terminally ill children the possibility of a cure and a longer life than ever before," John said.

His generous contribution designated for pediatric research at Children’s Wisconsin will ensure that he makes a difference in the lives of thousands more children.
